Remembering his promise with Luciola, Yokoshima takes over to fight Ashtaroth.
And knowing his weak spot, he has the best chance to finally win the battle, which started a millenium ago.
But Ashtaroth is still steadily marching towards Tokyo...

So basically, both of Ashtaroth's valid options came down to "escape the scourge of scorn". Or rather, escape the scourge of REMEMBERED scorn.
I can't say, then, that he's the most strong-willed demon out there. I stand by what Mikami said after escaping the galaxy egg: he's just a petulance elemental.
(I take it the last pulse from Ashtaroth was intercepted by Yesue and Satanel?)

... I don't recall the last time I saw a main villain die as a villain. They all redeem or justify themselves before the end, somehow... Ashtaroth was no exception. But I suppose, in a way, Ashtaroth wasn't really a "villain", in the evil sense.
I didn't think we'd get to see them again.

Yesue (leader of the gods) and Satanel (leader of the demons). We saw Siegfried reporting to them during the moon sequence.

because there is no such thing as pure evil (or at least no more since the 80s), you gotta give the villains a reason for being evil

not really...since jesus is always being portraited as that dude with the beard on the cross, i don't think christianity has a problem with visualizing anything, it's more because of them cooperating that scared karasu

It may sound like whining, but I miss the kind of main villain that was evil to the core, and that needed no reason for wanton slaughter.
Then again, villains with a reason are far more... amusing.

all villains need a reason but that doesn't mean there not evil to the core, Ashtaroth had a reason but he was still evil to the core and even more so the biggest coward evr to the core he was afraid to live

But it was Ashtaroths fault that vespa had to fight Yokoshima and Luciola, so its his fault Yokoshima was hurt and Luciola had to take the damage for him therefore it is his fault and he WAS afraid to live, people who want to die are just cowards to scared to face reality, I'd know I used to be one
